Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1: Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Updated To Add Support For Apple TV 2G, Animated Boot Logos & Bug Fixes

Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1: Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Updated To Add Support For Apple TV 2G, Animated Boot Logos & Bug Fixes

Sn0wbreeze v2.5.1
iH8sn0w released a new version Sn0wbreeze - v2.5.1 yesterday to add full support for Apple TV 2G, Animate (animated boot logos) by the Chronic Dev team and also fix some issues such as the YouTube problem reported by users who had hacktivated their iPhone, error 37 reported by iPhone 3GS old bootrom users and lots more.
iH8sn0w released Sn0wbreeze 2.5 – untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch earlier in the week.

Sn0wbreeze is considered as the unofficial PwnageTool for Windows. It allows users to create custom iOS 4.3.1 firmware file that is pre-jailbroken, which can be used to upgrade their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to iOS 4.3.1. In case of iPhone, it also preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w using the “Baseband Preservation Mode”.
Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 includes the following changes:
* Cydia 1.1.1 is now pre-installed.
* iPhone 3GS users can now flash the iPad 06.15.00 baseband.
* Animate (Animated Boot Logos) by the Chronic Dev-Team is now supported.
* Added afc2 * Apple TV 2 is now fully supported.
* Added Apple TV 2 DFU Instructions.
* YouTube issues resolved on hacktivated devices.
* iPhone 3GS old-bootrom issues fixed (Error 37).
Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 supports an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 and supports the following devices:
Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 doesn't support iPad 2 currently as Apple has fixed the jailbreak vulnerability in iOS 4.3.1. Dev team is trying to figure out how to legally distribute Comex’s iOS 4.3 jailbreak for iPad 2 to add support for it.
Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 also allows users to enable four and five finger multitouch gestures, which are only available to developers of iOS developer program.
Users who want to unlock their iPhone should not use Sn0wbreeze to update their iPhone to iOS 4.3.1 as Ultrasn0w is still not compatible with iOS 4.3.1. iPhone Dev team plans to release an update for Ultrasn0w to fix these incompatibilities in the next few days.
iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone users who don't care about unlocking are better off using Redsn0w as one doesn't need to preserve baseband like iPhone users.
You can download Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 from iH8sn0w’s website.
As always, please let us know how it goes

How To Jailbreak iPad 1 On iOS 4.3.1 Using Redsn0w [Windows / Mac]

How To Jailbreak iPad 1 On iOS 4.3.1 Using Redsn0w [Windows / Mac]

Jailbreak iPod Touch On iOS 4.2.1 Redsn0w
Redsn0w is one of the most popular jailbreaking tool developed by the iPhone Dev Team. iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 earlier today, which allows iPad 1 users to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 (untethered).
In this guide, we will take you through the step by step procedure to jailbreak iPad on iOS 4.3.1 using Redsn0w.

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.
You can follow these step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPad 1:
Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 (Mac and Windows) and save the application in a folder named "Redsn0w" on your desktop.
Step 2: You need to download iOS 4.3.1 firmware file:
iOS 4.3.1 firmware file for iPad 1 (iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw)
Step 3: Double click the Redsn0w zip file and extract the application to the Redsn0w folder.
Step 4: Connect your iPad to the computer, which should automatically launch iTunes.
Skip steps 5 and 6, if your iPad has already been upgraded to iOS 4.3.1.
Step 5: From the 'Devices' section on the left pane of iTunes, select your iPad device. Now, hold down the Shift button (Option button for Mac users) and click the 'Restore' button.
Step 6: Navigate to the Redsn0w folder on the desktop and select the downloaded iOS 4.3.1 firmware file (iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw). Click on the 'Choose' button to let iTunes update your iPhone with the required firmware. You will be asked to setup your iPad 1 either from a previous backup or setup as a new iPad, select the backup you want for your device (ideally should be the most recent one). Wait for iTunes to finish.
Step 7: Navigate back to the Redsn0w folder and launch the Redsn0w application. If you’re a Windows XP or Windows 7 user then try running Redsn0w as ‘Administrator’ (right-click on the Redsn0w exe and select 'Run as an Administrator').
Step 8: You will be asked to select the corresponding IPSW file. Click on the Browse button and select the iOS 4.3.1 firmware file (iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw).
Step 9: Redsn0w will verify the firmware file and inform you if it has successfully identified it. Click on 'Next' to proceed.
Step 10: Redsn0w will now start preparing the jailbreak data.
Step 11: You will now be prompted to select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and select 'Next' to continue.
Step 12: You will now be prompted to switch OFF your iPad and plug it to the computer. Follow the instructions and click on 'Next' to move to the next screen:
Step 13: You will now need to put your iPad into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:
(a) Hold the Power button on iPad down for 3 seconds:
(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPad and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds:
(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w identifies the device:
Step 14: Your iPad should reboot now.
Step 15: Redsn0w will now begin uploading the new RAM disk and kernel.
Step 16: You will now be notified once the jailbreaking process is complete. Click on the 'Finish' button to exit the application.
Step 17: Your iPad will reboot once again (which could take approximately 5 minutes). After it has rebooted, your iPad should be successfully jailbroken. You should find Cydia jailbreak app on your iPad’s home screen.
If you're new to the jailbreaking world and wondering what to do after jailbreaking your iPad, checkout our jailbreak apps category page to find out the apps you can install on your iPad using the Cydia app.

Ultrasn0w For iOS 4.3.1 To Fix Signal Bar Issues; Will Be Released In Few Days

Ultrasn0w For iOS 4.3.1 To Fix Signal Bar Issues; Will Be Released In Few Days

Redsn0w
If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac, Sn0wbreeze 2.5 for Windows or Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 that was released by iPhone Dev Team couple of days back and noticed issues such as single signal bar etc. then iPhone Dev team has announced that a fix is on its way.

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team revealed this on Twitter:
MuscleNerd: The 4.3.1 issues (signal bars, etc) are fixed http://is.gd/OYktXf but need a few days to test all devices + FW (again: not a new unlock!)
MuscleNerd has also clarified that the unlock for iOS 4.3.1 won’t unlock iPhone 4 basebands - 02.10.04 (bundled with iOS 4.1), 03.10.01 (bundled with iOS 4.2.1), 04.10.01 (bundled with iOS 4.3) or iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS basebands - 05.14.02 (bundled with iOS 4.1), baseband 05.15.04 (bundled with iOS 4.2.1), baseband 05.16.01 (bundled with iOS 4.3) and baseband 05.16.02 (bundled with iOS 4.3.1). Note: You can find your iPhone’s baseband by going to Settings –> About –> Modem Firmware
Ultrasn0w for iOS 4.3.1 will only support iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00.
MuscleNerd: It’s probably confusing, so worth repeating: this isn’t a new unlock. It’s a compatibility fix for current unlockers only MuscleNerd: (and for those retaining older baseband for resale value even though they don’t use the unlock themselves)
Even if you don’t care about unlocking, it looks like you’ll have to install the Ultrasn0w for iOS 4.3.1 from Cydia to fix the signal bar issue.

iOS 4.3.2 May Be Released In Next Two Weeks

iOS 4.3.2 May Be Released In Next Two Weeks

iOS 4.3.2
It has hardly been couple of weeks since Apple released iOS 4.3.1, which included several minor fixes and improvements for iOS devices and we've folks at BGR reporting that Apple is already planning to release iOS 4.3.2 in the next two weeks, which will include few enhancements, address security issues and fix several bugs.

BGR reports:
It’s said to include a few enhancements, address security issues, and it will also fix several bugs that have affected users. We’re told to expect the software update for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad in about two weeks.
It needs to be seen if Apple will fix the poor battery life issue that users have observed after upgrading to iOS 4.3. The issue wasn’t addressed in iOS 4.3.1 though some users have observed that disabling Ping improves battery life.
BGR had accurately reported about the possibility of iOS 4.3.1 software update few days before it was released.
As always, we’ll let you know as soon as there is any further updates so join our Facebook Fan page or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.

Jailbreak App Brings Multitouch Gestures To iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch

Apple introduced four and five finger multitouch gestures for iPad in iOS 4.3 beta 1 to developers of iOS developer program but had clarified that they won’t be enabled for users.
Apple provided a preview of the multi-touch gestures to developers in iOS 4.3 beta to gather input on how these gestures work with their apps.
This is how the four and five finger multitouch gestures work:
  • Pinch to Home screen
  • Swipe up to reveal multitasking bar
  • Swipe left or right between apps
Though we’ve seen several hacks that allow users to enable the multitouch gestures, a new jailbreak app has been released called MT Gestures, which makes it a lot easier for users who have jailbroken their iOS device to enable the four and five finger multitouch gestures, which seems to be quite popular with users.
MT Gestures currently works only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad 1. Please note that MT Gestures by cookie181992 is also supposed to support iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G but it didn't work for us, while MT Gestures and MT Gestures (WB) by Thieu.Bocap worked without any issue.
You can follow these steps to enable the multitouch gestures:
  • Launch Cydia from home screen
  • Tap on the Manage tab
  • Then tap on Sources
  • Tap edit and then Add iphone.gsm.vn/
  • After the new source is installed, tap on the Search tab and search for MT Gestures.
  • You may get few results for MT Gestures, tap and select MT Gestures (WB)
  • Tap on the Install button in the top right corner
  • Then tap Confirm to install MT Gestures WB on your jailbroken iOS device
  • Launch Winterboard from the homescreen
  • Tap Select Themes
  • Select the appropriate option from iPhone 3GS4.3.1 Gestures, iPhone 4 4.3.1 Gestures and iPad 4.3.1 Gestures
You should now be able to use multitouch gestures as seen in the video below:
You can disable it via the Settings app (General –> Multitouch gestures)

Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak 1st Gen iPhone and iPhone 3G running Firmware 2.1 [Updated]

Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak 1st Gen iPhone and iPhone 3G running Firmware 2.1 [Updated]

The iPhone hacking community has done it again, it has only been a few hours since Apple released iPhone firmware 2.1 which includes many bug fixes and improvements, and we have news that they have figured out a way to jailbreak iPhone firmware 2.1.
ipineapple, one of our readers here at iPhone Hacks, had posted a link to a step-by-step guide to jailbreak 1st generation iPhone and iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.1 for Windows users in the comments.
Update 1:
Folks at Sleepers.net who had also posted the step-by-step guide have just recommended to wait for some more time. There are apparently quite a few issues that need to be fixed which the iPhone Dev Team is working on, so you are better off waiting until the issues are fixed.
Update 2:
The ever-so dependable iPhone Dev team have released updated versions of their Pwnage and QuickPwn Tools to jailbreak and unlock the 1st Gen iPhone and jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.1 that was released by Apple only yesterday. You can read iPhone Dev Team Release PwnageTool v2.1 and QuickPwn v1.1 Which Supports iPhone Firmware 2.1 for more details.
The guide is currently only for Windows users.
The step-by-step instructions to Jailbreak 1st generation iPhone and iPhone 3G are as mentioned below:
  • Install iTunes 8.
  • Update iPhone with iTunes and make sure it is activated!
  • Uninstall iTunes 8.
  • Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (From Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel)
  • Install itunes v7.7.* (http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/) <-- all versions of itunes are there.
  • Download Quickpwn with the correct 2.1 bundle from this link.
  • Run quickpwn, select your iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw or iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw.
  • You can select Cydia and Installer and logos if you wish.
  • When it is finished the iPhone will reboot. Cydia and Installer will NOT be visible.
  • Install TotalCommander and in the left pane navigate to T-PoT.1.1.zip and click on it. It will install t-pot automatically.
  • Use Totalcommander to install patched mobileinstallation to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework ... clickon the dropdown box [-\-] top left and select network neighbourhood then t-pot. Remeber to back up your original mobileinstallation first! Drag the file from the right pane to the left, not from windows explorer to TotalCOmmander.
  • Still in TotalCommander delete /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist
  • Reboot the phone. This should jailbreak your iPhone.
  • Install “CacheDel” from cydia. Run this after each Cydia update or app install. Soon, Cydia, itself will be updated and this step will no longer be necessary.
The credit for the step-by-step guide goes to geeb.
Please do remember, hacking your iPhone is at your own risk. Hence it is always a good idea to backup your iPhone. This step-by-step guide is only to jailbreak iPhone and will not unlock the 1st generation iPhone.

As always, please let us know if it worked for you in the comments.
ipineapple, thanks for the tip.
Update 1:
Folks at Sleepers.net who had also posted the step-by-step guide have just recommended to wait for some more time. There are apparently quite a few issues that need to be fixed which the iPhone Dev Team is working on.
It has been observed that apps are unstable including Cydia, so you are better off waiting until the issues are fixed.
I am sorry folks, I will keep you posted in case I get any more details.

Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn (Windows)

Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn (Windows)

The iPhone Dev team released their much awaited software solution to unlock iPhone 3G couple of days back.
However to install their yellowsn0w application to unlock iPhone 3G, you need to first jailbreak iPhone 3G.
So here is a step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn for Windows users, on the same lines as the step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn for Mac users

Some important points to note before we start:
  • Hacking your iPhone 3G could void its warranty.
  • Since one of the important requirements to unlock iPhone 3G is to upgrade to iPhone firmware 2.2 (as it exclusivley works with baseband firmware 02.28.00 which comes bundled with firmware 2.2), you need to be aware that iPhone firmware 2.2 breaks Turbo SIM (in case you are using it) - the hardware method to unlock iPhone 3G so if Dev team's software method which is still in beta does not work you might not be able to use your iPhone 3G.
Preparatory steps before jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.
  1. Please take a backup of your iPhone, refer to this post for more details.
  2. Since Dev team's unlocking solution works exclusively with baseband firmware 02.28.00, you will need to upgrade your iPhone 3G to iPhone firmware 2.2 without preserving its baseband. You can check your firmware and modem firmware(baseband) versions via Settings->General->About and look for Version and Modem Firmware.
  3. Please ensure that you have upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.0.2.
  4. Please download QuickPwn for Windows from this link and unzip its contents in a folder.
  5. Please download firmware 2.2 for iPhone 3G using this link.
  6. You need to install .Net Framework runtimes and associated files (if not already installed) for Quickpwn to work. You can download it from Microsoft's site.
If your iPhone 3G firmware Version is 2.2 (5G77) and Modem Firmware is 02.28.00 then you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can skip directly to "Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn" below.
If you want to update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2 then you can follow the steps mentioned below ("Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone Firmware 2.2").
You can also follow these instructions if you want to update your iPhone 3G running firmware 2.2 with preserved baseband to firmware 2.2 (5G77) and baseband firmware 02.28.00.
Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone Firmware 2.2:
  1. Connect your iPhone 3G to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes and select your iPhone.
  2. Hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw file for firmware 2.2 that you have downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click “Open”.
  3. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 2.2 which takes sometime, please wait for the process to complete.
Once your iPhone 3G is updated to iPhone firmware 2.2, you are ready to use the QuickPwn tool to jailbreak it.
Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn:
  1. Launch QuickPwn from the unzipped folder to start jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.
  2. Please ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer. QuickPwn will automatically detect it and enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.
  3. In the next screen, click browse and select the iPhone firmware 2.2 that you had downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click Open.
  4. QuickPwn will check if the firmware file selected is the same as the one installed on your iPhone 3G, if valid it will enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.
  5. In the next screen, you will be prompted to install Cydia, Installer (both are preselected) and if you would like to Replace the Boot Logos. Install both Cydia and Installer as you will need it to install Dev team's unlock yellowsn0w application and also to install jailbreak apps.
  6. QuickPwn will again prompt you to ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer via USB, click the blue arrow button to continue.
  7. QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.
